Modified Thomas Test

Modified version to differentiate specific restrictions.

Flexibility

Purpose

Screen for Modified Thomas findings.

Execution

  1. 1Lie supine at the edge of a table
  2. 2Pull one knee to the chest to flatten the lumbar spine
  3. 3Allow the test leg to hang relaxed
  4. 4Observe thigh position and knee flexion angle
  5. 5Repeat on the other side

Protocol

  1. 1Observe from: lateral.
  2. 2Standardize start position and instructions.
  3. 3Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
  4. 4Record key observations and any positive indicators.
  5. 5Compare left vs right when applicable.
