Ober Test

Classic test to evaluate tensor fasciae latae and iliotibial band tension. Positive if the leg fails to drop to horizontal.

Purpose

Screen for Ober findings.

Execution

  1. 1Lie on the side with the test leg on top
  2. 2Stabilize the pelvis to prevent tilt
  3. 3Extend and abduct the test hip
  4. 4Allow the leg to adduct toward the table
  5. 5Observe if the thigh drops past midline

  1. 1Observe from: side.
  2. 2Standardize start position and instructions.
  3. 3Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
  4. 4Record key observations and any positive indicators.
  5. 5Compare left vs right when applicable.
