Ober Test
Classic test to evaluate tensor fasciae latae and iliotibial band tension. Positive if the leg fails to drop to horizontal.
Purpose
Screen for Ober findings.
Execution
- 1Lie on the side with the test leg on top
- 2Stabilize the pelvis to prevent tilt
- 3Extend and abduct the test hip
- 4Allow the leg to adduct toward the table
- 5Observe if the thigh drops past midline

- Thigh adduction toward the table
- Pelvic stability during the test
Protocol
- 1Observe from: side.
- 2Standardize start position and instructions.
- 3Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
- 4Record key observations and any positive indicators.
- 5Compare left vs right when applicable.
