TFL Frontal Plane Assessment
Frontal plane check during modified Thomas position to assess TFL stiffness.
MobilityPurpose
Screen for TFL Frontal Plane findings.
Execution
- 1Set the client in the modified Thomas position
- 2View the test leg from the frontal plane
- 3Observe thigh alignment relative to the trunk
- 4Note abduction at rest indicating TFL stiffness
- 5Compare sides
Key Observations
- Thigh alignment relative to the trunk
- Abduction at rest indicating TFL shortening
Protocol
- 1Observe from: frontal.
- 2Standardize start position and instructions.
- 3Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
- 4Record key observations and any positive indicators.
- 5Compare left vs right when applicable.
